Story Synopsis: What could be fancier than Christmas? Presents with elegant wrapping paper, festive decorations, Christmas cookies with sprinkles – and who could forget the tree? After all, there is no such thing as too much tinsel. Ooh la la! This year, Nancy is especially excited. After selling some of her old gowns and accessories, Nancy has enough money to buy a brand-new sparkly tree topper. She can’t wait to decorate the Christmas tree. But when things don’t turn out the way Nancy planned, will Christmas still be splendiferous?
Roles (***All played by adult actors 18+):
FANCY NANCY is a young elementary school girl who adores being fancy. For Nancy, fancy doesn’t mean expensive. It means overstated, colourful, or anything French! She loves making everything fancier… especially Christmas time! Soprano.
JOJO is Nancy’s younger sister. She can be a handful and is known to have the occasional temper tantrum. She loves her family, especially her big sister, Nancy. Soprano.
FATHER MR. CLANCY is Nancy’s dad. A doting father who loves his family. A voice of reason when Nancy tries being too fancy, as well as a shoulder to lean on when things go wrong. Tenor.
MOTHER MRS. CLANCY Nancy’s mom, is the soothing presence in the family. Mrs. Clancy turn disagreements into compromises. She adores her family and lovingly passes along the traditions of Christmas to her daughters. Soprano.
MRS. DEVINE/GRANDPA CLANCY Mrs. Devine is the Clancy’s next door neighbour and a lady in every sense of the word. A former ballroom dance teacher, she is over the top but not in a snobby way. Mrs. Devine is friendly to everybody and has a genuine joie de vivre. This actor also doubles as Grandpa Clancy, Fany Nancy’s Grandfather. A widow, he spends every Christmas with his family doting on his granddaughters. When things go wrong, it’s Grandpa Clancy who knows how to make things better. Alto.
